After 12 long years, Lunar Software finally took ROUTINE to the finish line. An incredible feat for a very small group of devs and it paid off as early reviews say it’s spectacular. Experience this new horror sci-fi game now, and if you’re on Xbox Game Pass, you’re scoring this for free.

ROUTINE Joins Xbox Game Pass on Day-One

Remember when ROUTINE was revealed in Gamescom 2012? Yes, I think at this point, everyone is having a flashback. After many many years, most people thought it wasn’t going to see the light of day. But then it came back in 2022 with a Steam page and a Game Pass day-one announcement. But still, years went on and there was a lot of uncertainty in the industry which brought everyone again to the feeling of dread.

But not anymore. Once Lunar Software announced the release date, the deal was sealed. And today, it’s out and we can finally experience what we’ve all been dreaming of.

If you weren’t in the loop or maybe need a refresher of what it is, ROUTINE is a first-person sci-fi horror game. It’s set on an abandoned moon base imagined through an ’80s retro-future lens, where what starts as a quiet investigation quickly becomes a tense fight to stay alive. As you explore decaying sectors, from living quarters and tram stations to eerie public spaces like a deserted mall, you piece together what happened through careful observation, scattered data, and locked-down terminals, all without waypoint markers, so navigation and discovery are part of the challenge.

The game leans into immersion with minimal UI, diegetic sound, and full-body awareness, while your Cosmonaut Assistance Tool (C.A.T.) serves as your lifeline for accessing systems, finding clues, and, when there’s no other choice, trying to fend off the unknown threat stalking the facility.

ROUTINE officially launched December 4, 2025 for PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It is also a day-one launch on Xbox Game Pass, meaning Ultimate and PC members can play the game at no additional cost. It is available on console, PC, cloud, and optimized for Xbox handheld.
